This year, the competition focussed on the past, present and future of governments and societies. Particular emphasis was placed on the visualisation of metrics to illustrate progress.
One winner which stood out for us in terms of clarity and insight was Emily Murphy’s ‘Reportcard for Humanity’ which won recognition in the interactive poster category.
The visualisation covers five key categories and ‘grades’ how well humanity is doing in those areas. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not all doom and gloom! The data actually shows big improvements in global health, quality of life and education in the past decade.
There is still room for improvement however, with less progress on sustainability issues such as deforestation and CO2 emissions.
