Vocal Type is addressing the issue of non-diversity in the design industry through what they believe is the 'root of all good graphic design - typography.'
By studying various supressed people thoughout history, from the Woman's Sufferage Movement in Argentina to the Civil Rights Movement in America, a range of typefaces have been created to give these people a voice and recognition within the current design industry.
One example is the Martin typeface which is based on signs carried by marchers at the Memphis santiation strike in 1968 and the subsequent rally following the assissination of Martin Luther King shortly after he joined their cause.
Netflix recently used the Martin typeface for the Nina Simone documentary 'What Happened Miss Simone' by Liz Garbus.
